Setup e911
e911 settings are configured from the Numbers screen under the Emergency tab.
It is essential to have at least one phone number assigned to each physical location where your phones are used. e911 works by matching the caller ID of an outbound emergency call to a registered street address, ensuring first responders are dispatched to the correct place. It is your responsibility to ensure that every physical location has its own unique e911 phone number.
Setting up e911 in WebFones
In addition to configuring the e911 address itself, WebFones allows you to specify which phones and extensions belong to which e911 location. e911 can be defined at multiple levels, with a clear chain of defaults:
Account e911
Configured on the Defaults page, where all company-wide settings live.
Every account must have a default e911 phone number.
Organization e911 Extensions assigned to an organization can inherit that organization’s e911 settings.
Extension e911 An extension can override organization-level settings by specifying its own e911 number.
Device e911 You can assign e911 settings to a specific device, which overrides all other defaults.
Testing e911
To verify your e911 configuration, dial 933. The automated service will read back the address currently on file. DO NOT dial 911 unless you are experiencing an actual emergency.
