Create Cascading Rings

A Cascading Ring allows you to begin ringing a small group of users and then automatically expand to a larger group if the call isn’t answered. This setup is ideal when a primary team handles most calls but occasionally needs backup during busy periods.

Example Scenario

You have two call groups:

  • Sales: Amy, Joe
  • Sales2: Amy, Joe, Sarah, John
In this example, the call should ring the Sales group first. If no one answers, the system will expand the ring to include Sales2. If still unanswered, the call goes to voicemail.

Here’s what that looks like:

In this configuration:

  • Stage 1: Ring Sales for 15 seconds
  • Stage 2: Continue ringing Amy and Joe, but add Sarah and John from Sales2

Best Practices

Cascading rings are effective, but keep in mind:

  • Callers rarely wait more than 30–40 seconds before hanging up
  • A 30-second ring equals roughly 6–7 rings
  • If you need additional layers, consider:
- Playing a brief message between stages
- Or sending the caller to a Call Queue, which provides music-on-hold and a better waiting experience

These strategies help prevent caller frustration and reduce abandoned calls.
